Capita (located within The Consulting Rooms) are absolutely abysmal. They are the company responsible for medically assessing candidates who wish to join the Armed Forces. I had to go here for two medical assessments and my main problem with them was their totally inadequate hearing test system and conditions for said test. I had to go here twice. The second time I had a very poor experience with a doctor who was arrogant, condescending and dismissive. Neither assessment included a soundproof booth, the headphones were not “noise cancelling” as I could clearly hear the doctor typing on his laptop in front of me, and I could hear noise outside the office. The doctor then provided me with a false outcome in which I apparently had “terrible hearing”. I was confused by this as I have never in my life had a problem with my hearing, I have never had any trouble whatsoever hearing any sort of sound, and so I was baffled. So I went to a private audiologist for a second opinion. I did their hearing test, where they had a soundproof booth, actual noise cancelling headphones, and I could not hear anything outside the booth. I would find out a few months later that this is precisely how a hearing test should be conducted. Once the test was complete, I was told my hearing was “normal”. All ‘in the green’. So I took this result with me to my second appointment where the doctor dismissed it as soon as I attempted to hand it over. I did the hearing test again under exactly the same conditions as my first assessment. I failed. He said I had “severe hearing loss”. I then firmly presented my evidence to the man, that clearly showed normal hearing but he only dismissed it again, unable to comprehend how I could possibly have passed the test held at the private audiologist. I insisted that I have never in my life had a problem with my hearing, I have no medical history of hearing problems, and I have no idea how I failed the test twice. I argued that his system was inadequate, to which he responded with condescending words and an arrogant tone. Thankfully I was able to pass my assessment as I went to a second private audiologist, passed the hearing test, had a different Capita doctor review this new evidence, and I passed. I find it absolutely absurd, concerning, and disgraceful that Capita have been chosen to medically assess candidates to join the military when they are clearly incompetent and not fit for purpose. Providing candidates with outcomes that were proven to be false, allowing doctors to treat candidates with disrespect, and unnecessarily delaying their applications. It is an absolute farce.
