The North Carolina Lawyer Assistance Program (NCLAP) offers confidential, non-disciplinary mental health assistance to lawyers, judges, and law students in North Carolina. As a service of the North Carolina State Bar, NCLAP is uniquely positioned to understand and address the specific stressors of the legal profession. They provide support for a range of issues including alcohol or drug problems, anger management, anxiety, compassion fatigue, depression, grief, process addictions, stress, burnout, and trauma. Assistance is delivered through licensed counselors and trained volunteers, aiming to promote recovery, protect the public, and strengthen the legal profession. Services include guidance for law firms, continuing legal education, support groups, and crisis event response. In-person consultations are by appointment only, and all communications are strictly confidential.
