Plymouth Domestic Abuse Services (PDAS), formerly operated by Sanctuary Supported Living, no longer provides direct domestic abuse support in Plymouth. Support is now managed by the Integrated Domestic Abuse Service Plymouth (IDASP), a collaboration including First Light, Ahimsa, Barnardo’s, and Bridges Outcomes Partnerships. First Light offers the primary IDASP support service for individuals experiencing domestic abuse in the Plymouth area. Ahimsa provides behaviour change services for those seeking to address harmful behaviour, with referrals made by professionals. Sanctuary Supported Living continues to offer refuge accommodation until July 2026, after which this service will transfer to Bournemouth Churches Housing Association (BCHA).

I was told they only offer support to people in abusive romantic relationships. Not abusive family relationships eg adults with abusive parents , adults with abusive siblings etc So unless your boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife is abusing you, don't contact this service. They won't help you. Experts make clear that domestic abuse DOES happen within familial relationships. For example you could be an adult with parents who are abusing you. Or vice versa . But this organisation only recognises abuse in romantic relationships. I was informed that was the only abuse they offer support for.

Just got off the phone to them. And they were not interested in helping me. Think I got someone having a bad day on the phone

This was a year ago, but I called PDAS for help about my experience of domestic and financial abuse. I was desperate. One of the caller on PDAS was extremely dismissive of my experience and told me that they couldn't understand my situation and that I was ungrateful for not accepting the fact that I was suffering from financial abuse, because in their words, it was a given to give money to your parents. I really want to recommend this service, but because of my past experience, I feel like it would be very traumatic to people who are seeking help from PDAS to receive the same type of treatment as me. You never know if your response could've made someone heavily suicidal or not. I really hope PDAS could find better staff that are able to "understand" our issues and have the patience to listen.
