Mellow Massage — Massage spa in San Diego, CA

My husband and I came in for a 2 hour hot stone couples massage this afternoon. The value for the price was very good. I had Erin as my provider and my husband had Taylor. Erin was attentive to my requests and gave a lovely massage. Taylor was great to my husband also!

Mellow Massage Downtown San Diego did not disappoint! I was able to get an appointment next day. The location is easy to find and appears well-maintained. My therapist never made the experience feel rushed, and did an excellent job. She spent extra time in problem areas I identified, and adjusted pressure as requested. Highly recommend the scalp massage! I would not hesitate to return to this location in the future!

My husband and I really had a great experience with our masseuses Jetawyn and Antoine. They were really welcoming and made us feel comfortable. They were very communicative throughout the whole session. I expressed feeling nervous about the hot stones before hand as it was my first time getting a hot stone service but Jetawyn assured me that there was nothing to be afraid of and she was right! My husband got the deep tissue massage and said that Antoine did a fantastic job with the amount of pressure used. Both of our services exceeded our expectations. We will be returning!

Overall, the experience was decent. I booked a deep tissue massage and the therapist was polite and welcoming, which I appreciated. The space itself was comfortable and relaxing. That said, I didn’t feel much relief after the session. The technique felt more like constant pressure rather than intentional movement or muscle work. It didn’t seem like there was much assessment of tension or checking whether areas were actually releasing. I specifically asked to focus on my lower back and legs, but only about 10–15 minutes were spent on those areas. Most of the session felt generalized rather than targeted. The massage wasn’t bad, but it felt more like surface pressure than true deep tissue work. With more focus on technique and better attention to problem areas, this could be a much better experience.

I am in town with my husband while he works, so I decided I would look up a close massage place. Walking distance from where we were staying was a positive. Great central location in downtown San Diego. To say my massage was amazing would be an understatement. Taylor was so awesome and addressed all my tight body spots and truly made me feel relaxed. If I lived here I would go see him every week!! Could not recommend this place more.

My partner and I each received separate Deep Tissue massage appointments from Brian and Erin. Both masseuses listened to our respective requests to work on areas of our backs at different intensities and we both received exactly what we were looking for. The rooms were quiet, clean, and comfortable. I even received advice on how to properly sleep to reduce back tension, which I appreciated. Considering the price point and quality of service, we would recommend Mellow Massage to others.

My experience at Mellow Massage was great. I was looking for a same day appointment as my back had been bothering me for sometime and I couldn’t believe I was able to book something that very day at Mellow. Noni was my masseuse and he was very professional and attentive. I left the place with my back and shoulders feeling much better and a lot less stressed. Their prices are very reasonable, and I will definitely be going back within the next month or two. The place is super clean and the ambience is serene. It’s definitely my to go place for a massage going forward.

Cynthia is an amazing masseuse. She was able to do thai massage to straighten out my legs and then gave me an excellent Swedish massage.

Recently had a massage at Mellow Massage in La Jolla, which is a new location. Parking was remarkably easy to find. Very nice staff and very skilled techs. I worked with Martha and did a deep tissue for 80 minutes. She was very communicative and attuned to the appropriate pressure to use. My sister worked with Antoine and she said he was very knowledgeable and skilled as well. We both agree we would go back again. I also like that they are a small, independent business versus a chain. Would definitely recommend.

Don’t waste your money. The appointments are handled from an overseas phone line. The owner who messages you to check-in about your experience is actually an AI bot. Your appointment will get moved to different masseurs without you knowing. The front desk is just a basic unmanned laptop with a piece of paper on the front that says “call for appointments”. The current male masseurs on offer lack professionalism and the skills necessary to provide a restorative massage or at the very least a pleasant relaxing experience. I have been going to the downtown location since it opened in 10/2023 and was very happy with Josh who brought a level of professionalism to the mellow massage brand however after he was let go it has been nothing but disappointing. I could name names but I’ll just describe my experiences with the other masseurs. One will move you around to fit his schedule because he has other more important obligations despite his mediocre skills. My husband caught another masseur on his phone for an extended period of time during his massage and my experience with the same masseur made me want a refund. Another was incredibly light for a deep tissue massage despite being told to go harder. Another focused on my problem area but did not continue on to provide a full body massage. All in all it’s been 9 months and $1,170 since Josh left and omg I cannot believe I spent that much money on a slew of horrible experiences just hoping for a good massage. SAVE YOUR MONEY THIS ISNT THE PLACE
