Barewell is truly a gem in San Diego. From the moment you walk in, the space itself feels calming, beautiful, and thoughtfully designed—making it easy to feel safe and comfortable opening up. Dr. Byrd, the owner, goes above and beyond for not just the clients who solicit her care, but for the San Diego mental health community and those of us seeking a trusted referral or collaboration. She’s incredibly responsive, genuine, and creates an environment where you feel both supported and challenged to grow. If you’re looking for a therapist who will meet you where you are while helping you reach new levels of insight and healing, look no further than Barewell!
Charged $195 for an appointment I cancelled due to circumstances out of my control. Seems excessive. I had 18 appointments covered by insurance but it’s my impression Barewell may prefer charging these one time fees rather than getting paid much more for 18 visits. They can legally charge these fees, but I can also legally choose to find another provider and take my 18 covered visits elsewhere. There can be a better way to deal with cancellations rather than punitive fees on patients who already have many life stressors, hence the reason for seeking therapy. Shortsighted from Barewell in my opinion.
I love Dr. Byrd's HONESTY, directness, and no-nonsense approach. All of these qualities helped me feel so much more comfortable opening up and talking about what I was going through. And created a sense of trust that her words really hold meaning and weight. I highly recommend Dr. Byrd and her team at Barewell.
As an LMFT, Laura Todd at bareWell Group is one of my most trusted referrals because I wholeheartedly believe clients will be in caring and competent hands. Laura’s deep knowledge of trauma, combined with her culturally informed and liberation-oriented approach, creates a truly inclusive and safe space where clients can feel seen and supported. She works from an anti-oppressive lens, honoring each person’s unique experience with warmth, skill, and respect. These are qualities I value highly when referring. Knowing that Laura provides thoughtful, compassionate care gives me great confidence that my referrals are well taken care of. I’m grateful to have her as a colleague and resource.
Chelsea Walkerow is the BEST therapist! I couldn’t commend her enough! From the patience and thoughtfulness to the special care and attention she provided me throughout the process, I will forever attribute a huge piece of credit for my renewed peace of mind to the coping mechanisms Chelsea has taught me! I recommend you choose BareWell, but I HIGHLY recommend you consider choosing Chelsea as your therapist of choice if she’s available.
