I wanted to write a review a few months out just because I wanted to make sure my review wasn't clouded by emotion. To summarize: My first experience was very positive and helpful, but my second experience wasn't and this program has gone VERY downhill. I came to Renfrew's Day Treatment Program for the first time after leaving residential treatment in October 2022. Although I had to step back up, I truly felt that the program was helpful and the staff were supportive, especially the dieticians Rachel (who now works for another company) and Brittany. My therapist Ivy (she was an intern at the time) was incredible. After coming back from residential treatment the second time and going to PHP somewhere else, I went back to Renfrew because I wanted additional meal support (specifically in the mornings). This was around April or so of 2023. First of all, I couldn't even meet with my actual dietician my first day. It was just someone online that I would never meet again. As I continued, the program was a disaster, so bad that I dropped out of the program. Yes, I was experiencing treatment fatigue and that was a major reason I left (and what I told everyone), but the level of disorganization, stress, and poor management I experienced made me feel unwelcome and like me being there was a problem. Everything was so repetitive, way more than before. The therapists I remembered from my previous admission were extremely stressed and overstretched. It was visible and I don't blame them - there were so many of us in the program and Renfrew appears to be relying on a very low amount of staff. We were watching videos on how digestion works, which is so stupid and unhelpful. Meal support was nearly nonexistent. If someone was clearly struggling, there was no support. Treatment fatigue wasn't the only reason I left. Unfortunately, I am now struggling again and will not be coming back to Renfrew Center City because of my second experience.
I can’t begin to explain how much the therapists and dietitians at this Renfrew site helped me. I had been in treatment before but have never received this great of support. The therapists and dietitians really care about you and want to see you succeed. Also, I would say the providers at this site are Health At Every Size and trans affirming! I was so sad to discharge but I am grateful for my time spent there.
I would rate a 0. No help. Due to underlying medical conditions they refused to treat me for Anorexia when they were the last place I would be able to go to as every other place rejected me for the same reason.
