I was brought in last night after bringing myself to the emergency room for suicidal thoughts. Unfortunately my experience is very similar to most of the reviews, there is one waiting area(12x8maybe) with 10-15 chairs. I immediately became more uncomfortable having to sit in between two men, I have trauma related to men. Two hours passed before I spoke to a nurse, after another hour of nothing I asked for my belongings and to go home. 30 minutes later I met with a physician, told him I wanted to leave, he had to “discus with the team” I was in need of help and did not receive it, I, in fact felt worse the longer I was there. I felt unsafe in the waiting area asked if I could wait anywhere else and was told “no” I’m honestly shocked this is how Penn Medicine would let a crisis center run, you should be ashamed of yourselves that this is the circumstances you put people seeking help in.
Absolutely horrendous. When I went in person months ago I waited for over and hour no update sobbing in a chair before I left. This time I called and I asked how bed worked, she said in a rude way that this was not a facility that had that. She then hung up on me while I was asking a clarifying question. I was trying to not like die? It’s pretty messed up that when I call for support they don’t even wait till your conclusion to hang up. I wasn’t safe, that was really like messed up ngl.
Took a friend here and after waiting 6 hours in the waiting room in crisis my suicidal friend was screamed at by a nurse for crying and being frustrated. If you can’t handle someone crying and being frustrated, maybe you shouldn’t be working in mental health. My friend lied to be discharged before she was admitted because she couldn’t face being there with such horrible people. It’s a shame that most facilities like this in the area all have similar reviews.
I was brought in by ambulance without anyone and I was terrified I was barely ever checked on. (I am aware of staff shortage so i always put that into consideration) I was depressed scared and confused came in trying to kill my self and left feeling the same way. It felt like no in cared about me except one nurse but I forget her name
This place is disgusting! Dirty & you are greeted with ignorant people right when you walk through the door. They leave female patients unattended with other male patients. They are so unprofessional in a Crisis situation. They are not there to help anyone unless you walk in admitting to wanting to kill your self. No wonder there are so many self medicated people walking the streets of Philly. There is no help for these people! These people do not care! This facility needs to be investigated & rid of those who have no compassion for life!
If I could give a rating of zero stars I would. I went to Hall Mercer for help in March 2022 for help with getting my adult son 302d (involuntarily committed) after he attacked me when I visited his apartment. I will admit I was somewhat hysterical but it was a very scary experience. He looked like another person, that's how full of rage he was. Instead of sympathy or any type of professionalism all I got was grief over my middle name (had to show them my i.d.) accusations from the MH Delegate (over the phone) that maybe I shouldn't have showed up unannounced. My son is now emaciated and delusional. I am praying to God for help because I'm sure not going to get it from Hall-Mercer.
I wish I didn’t just leave my friend here with these rude, unprofessional, apathetic people. It’s almost as if they aren’t aware that they work at a crisis center. Cold, unprofessional, rude, aggressive - literally everything you don’t need at the worst time in your life. I calmly asked them to speak more kindly to us and they flew off the handle and threatened me! I just pray he’s ok with them and that the nurse who came out to speak with us is not indicative of the rest of their staff.
Crisis call center operator “lex” should receive better training in customer service. These are patients that need assistance for their mental health and she proved to be nothing but helpful. Lives are at stake.
terrible unprofessional staff, rude, ignorant, and dangerous. a woman was about to get man handled by 6 uniformed officers due to her simply laying down on the ground due to doctors at the hospital before her arriving giving her sedating medications. When i defended her they took it out on me by keeping me 3 days and not allowing me to leave when i requested to be let go as i was there voluntarily. They took videos of me, had nurses withhold important medication from the i had paperwork saying was needed, withheld even a snack which was given to the others for 2 days even when they knew i was hypoglycemic, barely conscious or awake. Even poking fun at the state i was in with other staff and patients. I would never suggest it this place should be shut down.
i was here for ten hours and left before people who were there for twelve hours. its rediculous that theres only one doctor on at a time because there was 10+ patients there at any time. if youre looking for help, dont even waste your time at a crisis center, just go to a regular hospital so you dont have to sit in one seat for 10 hours crying in front of ten other people in the same 8x15 area all day.
