Dr. Theodora G. Balis, MD, is a psychiatrist who graduated in 1984. Based on client feedback, her approach has been described as heavily reliant on psychotropic medication, with one reviewer stating she used "heavy medication" as her primary tool. This approach led to significant distress for at least one client, who reported experiencing severe side effects and a prolonged period of fear related to medication. The reviewer indicated that Dr. Balis did not appear to be trauma-informed and did not discuss recovery. Following a negative experience, the reviewer sought and found a different provider who offered a more collaborative and trauma-informed approach to medication management and therapy, leading to a significantly improved quality of life.

If i could give her a zero i would. She was not trauma informed and completely obliterated me with 8 psych meds. No talk of recovery. 7 years of being terrified if i didn't take theses heavy medications. I was terrified of my own mind. In therapy getting "Dr Balises voice" out of my head has been a long process. In 2017 when she put me on another medication and i couldn't walk for 3 weeks was the last straw. And thankfully she left. I am not schitzo affective bipolar as she said. I was having a trauma response from being in central booking for 3 days during the Freddie Grey riots. Many others had psychotic breaks. She got her digree in 1984. If you do work with her get a second opinion. I wish i had. From 2017- 2017 my life was nonexistent. She reluctantly let me reduce. I had no partner at the time and no parent so no one knew what I was on not even me! She has one tool heavy medication. I am now preparing for graduate school, have a studio, go to art school and am very high functioning. Full wonderful life. I very easily could have spent my whole life in that condition. Tarive dyskinesia, zero emotions, afraid if i didn't take the meds it was 'unsafe". Her words. I always had a psychiatric doctor on board. My current Psych nurse is great. Trauma informed and really listens and works with me to find the best medications.
