My primary care doctor sent many referrals over the course of two months have not heard back from uofl at all. Called several times only to be told I cannot make an appointment without a referral. Unhelpful rude office staff clearly no care for the patient. Avoid this place at all cost if you need any mental health care. Same for uofl peace hospital I left more traumatized than when I arrived.

Christine Schupp NP. I needed a new psychiatrist. My primary care referred me to U of L and Schupp. It was horrible. First time see her and there was no personality at all. Face never cracked. She never actually spoke to me or looked at me. She asked questions from her computer and it was awful. I understand about the almighty dollar and insurance and hurry up. If you want to feel like cattle herding, make an appointment with her. If you really need mental help, look somewhere else.

Thos office needs all new staff from front to back Start with staff who actually speaks to you in a welcoming and caring voice Take down the glass window they keep shut while they are laighi4 and chatting it up loudly. Hire a person to be in charge that has resprct and compasdion. Get rid of the condescending drs who tjink they are above ypu. Stop treating people like they are addicts seeki g medication for the fun of it.

Primary care doc has sent in 2 referrals for my husband for psychiatry. Still waiting for a call back months and months later. Have called to make appt, no one answers. Have left message on new patient line. no call back. Have requested appt online, no call back. At this point we'll be looking for care else where. Not that anyone there cares.

As a psychology student at UofL I believed UofL psychiatry would my best option for medication management. The first time I scheduled to make an appointment Tamika Sherley, seems to do the first-appointment scheduling, at this office and was incredibly rude. I’ve been seeing a psychiatrist for the past 7 years and I’ve never had someone who is supposed to be a healthcare professional talk to me this way. She was demeaning and acted like I was stupid for trying to see another doctor about the medication I’m currently taking. She said “we ain’t the type of place to do second opinions”. Even though I had been referred by another physician for this exact reason. I felt so uncomfortable after my conversation with her that I called back the next day to cancel the appointment. I was put on the phone with the same person and when I was asked why I wanted to cancel I said it was because “it wasn’t the typical office to do a second opinion” basically that I didn’t feel welcomed and Tamika instantly started arguing with me about what she had said the day before. She then hung up on me mid-sentence and when I called back to get her name and the name of her supervisor she said that I was rude to her and hung up on me again after refusing to give me the name of her supervisor. I had greater hopes for this institution, but they have nothing but children working the front desk. Especially considering this is a psychiatric facility for people that are dealing with a wide range of mental health issues from suicide to depression and anxiety this is truly sad. And I hope no one else has to deal with this when trying to seek support.

I've had a great experience working with Dr. Brian Casey and LCSW Justin. However, the office manager Tina and a staff person by the name of Ann were so disrespectful and condescending, she was rude and appeared to be a racially tone deaf closed person. She was so busy talking over me and making inaccurate statements I couldn't get a word in edge-wise. When I expressed how disgusted and turned off by the way she spoke and interacted with me, she said, "I'm sorry you feel that way." When I corrected her and pointed out that she should be saying that she sorry I was having that experience with her, but before I could finish, she hung up on me. I called back and spoke with Tina who backed Ann up 100%. She was no better than Ann, she also made stupid and inaccurate comments. It's time for their customer experience department to get these people in check before they run away all the patients.

Obviously, I cannot speak for the people that left these low reviews. I have been seeing Dr Ben for years after being in the hospital on life-support with septic shock. when I got home, I began to have panic attacks and deep, dark depression. I suffered memory loss along with other cognitive issues. He is very knowledgeable as a neurologist and a psychiatrist and has helped me tremendously and continues to help myself and my family. As for me, I would not trust anyone else! He is actually one of the very few doctors that I do trust. Very personable and down to earth. The staff have always been kind to me. So don’t let these low reviews. Keep you from seeking help. Period.

My experience with this practice had been alright, until recently when there was a problem with billing. I have been going to a psychiatrist here for X amount of years and never missed a payment. Sometime during this year my insurance was dropped and I wasn’t apparently covered for a couple different appointments. I paid what I could at the time. I fully intended to pay the rest over the next few months until my next appointment but I had some other financial things come up that took precedence over medical bills. When I called to make an appointment I asked if I could just pay some of what I owed for my psychiatrist considering that’s who I was going to see (their hourly rate without insurance is absolutely insane by the way); I was told no, it *all* had to be paid in order to schedule an appointment. I understand they have to bring in money, it’s not a charity. BUT, if you’re putting people on meds that cause withdrawals (not opiates but many mental health meds have withdrawal symptoms and it can be brutal) and denying them access to a doctor/medicine, it just doesn’t seem ethical. I need medicine to literally function/sleep, so I can work a job and thus make money to pay you. It makes no sense. The thing that irritated me with my last appointment was that they would not let me make a payment plan for the future appointment I made so I had to pay in full. Thankfully I had the money but it also put a damper on my finances. I couldn’t even just pay half, it was all or nothing. I will be looking for a new doctor and thankfully will have insurance again soon, but it is ridiculous to not have some sort of safety net for clients who can’t always pay the full amount at the time of service if you’re going to charge an ungodly amount for an appointment. I had literally paid for every appointment in the past, yet when I needed a little extra room they couldn’t compromise. It’s disgusting.

As a fairly long time patient here (of the ULP Outpatient), I'm leaving this review in response to the ones I read concerning certain staff members. I can only speak for my experience, and in my experience I've never encountered the types of negative interactions that are described in other reviews. I'm not disputing any review, simply offering my own experience as a not always easy patient to deal with. Despite that, these people - from the doctor, therapist, lab rep, scheduling agents, etc. - always and without fail treat me like gold. As someone else stated correctly, "these people have done everything they can to help me, and they continue to help me." I think that about sums it up. Given the nature of particular illnesses, these people could otherwise be disposed to treat their patients badly and, by society's standards, would be justified to do so, but they do not. I'll repeat that: they do not. I've come to know many of the staff here very well over the years I've been fortunate enough to be a patient. My final thought, especially for an incoming patient, is this: it's a big practice. Massive, actually. Many physicians, many patients. There are few days when the massive waiting room is empty. Those staff members deal with myriad personalities each and every day, many who travel out of city or out of state to come here. Cut them some slack. Be kind, be understanding, and remember that with insurance companies these days in between the provider and patient, things can get confusing. But don't take it out them. These are people among the many in the medical profession who keep many of us alive. Try not to forget that.
