It's a very comfortable shelter but the workers come with a complex making you feel very uncomfortable currently working with Ms Elizabeth and she is the rudest lady 8k literally has no compassion for dv survivors
They came into my room and asked me if I had any other place to go I told them no it would be another week and the girl came back and said me and my son had to be out by 1pm today even though we have no where else to stay so now we're outside either that are I go back to my abuser
I am incredibly grateful for Renee Appling at the Center for Women and Families. From the very first moment we met, Renee’s warmth, compassion, and genuine care were evident. There is something truly remarkable about her presence — her beautiful smile alone can lift your spirits on the darkest days, but it is her unwavering dedication to my well-being that left an indelible mark on my heart. Renee never treated me like a case, a statistic, or a number. She treated me like a human being who mattered deeply. She listened with patience and empathy, offering guidance without judgment, and always knowing when to lift me up when I felt discouraged or overwhelmed. She celebrated my victories, no matter how small, and reminded me of my strength when I doubted myself. During moments when I felt lost, her encouragement became a guiding light, giving me hope and courage to keep moving forward. What sets Renee apart is her authentic interest in the people she serves. She goes above and beyond, not just in her professional role, but as a source of emotional support and human connection. Her kindness is not fleeting — it is consistent, genuine, and transformative. I cannot overstate the comfort, confidence, and empowerment she instilled in me during a time when I needed it most. The Center for Women and Families is incredibly fortunate to have Renee Appling on their team. She embodies the very essence of advocacy: empathy, patience, respect, and a heart that truly cares. I will forever carry the impact of her guidance, her words, and her presence. Renee is not just an advocate — she is a beacon of hope, a source of strength, and a reminder that even in our hardest moments, there are people who will see us, believe in us, and uplift us with unwavering care. If you are seeking support, I can say without hesitation that Renee Appling will meet you where you are, walk beside you with compassion, and help you find your own strength when you feel it has disappeared. She is extraordinary, and I will always be thankful for the profound difference she made in my life.
Call worker was rude hurry get off phone n said my abuse wasnt bad enough im not bleeding or getting punched in face.
This place is honestly an awful place to experience. Being here with my child in a time of need, I feel really unwelcome. You would think this would be a great place to help you but they only pick and choose who they really help. They literally have a cycle of women with children come in and come back and gain all the resources housing, food and everything needed over and over again neglecting others who are really in the worst situation. This place needs to be shut down honestly. I feel unsafe unwelcome and neglected with my child. Horrible place!
Tried to donate new toiletries and clothes and the attendant was extremely rude. Her tone was degrading and condescending. I pray no woman in need comes across the sad excuse of an employee that I spoke with on Aug 12, 2024 around 1:30p. She is pathetic and needs to work somewhere where compassion and competence isn’t required.
Called the center at night and was hung up on over and over, I donated to this place in the past, and when I needed help one person answered and basically told me she was too busy, and to call back in the morning. It's not a 24 hour crisis line if no one answers, and the one time they do they tell you to go away.
On November 2, 2023 I was put out of my home I shared with my abuser. I had to go to Norton Hospital for physical injuries and mental/emotional abuse from my children’s father current and past abuse. Once at hospital the staff did not address my concerns of domestic abuse and when I asked repeatedly for someone to help the hospital emergency head nurse finally called Center for Women and Children to assist but later in phone call indicated at that time I did not qualify to be accepted at that time because they only had room for individuals who had children and did not have a place for me. After being put back out to the waiting room with no resources and into an environment where I was put back into the same situation and not even seen for previous physical and mental abuse by my children’s father, no wheelchair because I am a below knee left leg amputee, no place to go and ignored, I finally was able to get someone to pick me up…. I’ve called all the places on the Homelessness list (which should have been added a Domestic Violence advocate help list) no one has given me any counseling or place of safety proving to me the city of Louisville Kentucky failed me as a citizen and person in need of medical attention for my mental and physical abuse and current health needs, but still after contacting the Louisville Metro online site gave me the same information given by hospital and domestic violence so called advocates and/or services.
If I am alive today, it's because of the people God put on my way to recover from domestic violence. Tammy, David and myself will never forget you. The Center for Women and Family was more than family. God bless your caring gentle heart!❤️
I'm a client. The advocates nearly guarantee safety and well-being and help as much as they can as long as you are trying to reach your goal. Needless to say I was told to live at my work for 2 days because they couldn't get me back to the shelter and I've exhausted every possible option at work. Then still getting vebally abused by other clients more the 4 times reported
