Dr May helped me continue and, later, improve my comprehensive treatment plan after I was diagnosed with Adult ADD / ADHD at age 26. In 2012, I was a 4 years into my career and I had relocated to Indianapolis for a new opportunity. I searched for a local Primary Care Physician for weeks- one new patient appointment at a time— only to be denied the medication component of my existing treatment plan. Instead of suggesting alternatives all the PCP docs dismissively recited their policy of not treating ADHD in patients beyond their teen years. I felt like my hard earned success was fated to end much sooner than later because I had aged out. The last PCP I saw finally redirected me to find a good psychiatrist. At my request, he gave me Dr May’s name and I scheduled my first appointment. The continuation of medication was absolutely necessary and the confidence I realized allowed uninterrupted growth and personal development that formed the foundation for healthy and successful habits. Not only did I have permission but I was also encouraged to think outside the box when deriving solutions to problems and approaching situations in everyday life. Without seeing Dr May twice monthly, it’s impossible for me to know with any certainty where I would be now or wouldn’t have ever been in the decade since then. In 2013 I began consulting in my field. I was contracted to join a team but my competency brought new opportunities to the table when VPs at Biomet Biologics asked for my assessment. I arrived as an additional resource and left that meeting as the resource to replace the existing team of senior consultants. I delivered 6 weeks ahead of deadline what that team estimated would be a 2 year engagement. I went on to consult medical device companies in Denver, Colorado Springs, San Francisco, San Diego and Boston before I formed my own LLC in 2021. Goals as an adult are not just the dreams of my childhood. They are my plans of things to come. I have a thriving life because Dr May knows the role behavior plays in our society and most importantly he knew better than the general medical community at the time, how critical cognitive functions of the brain are controlled by the many chemical processes. With appropriate medication, my ability to comprehend, assess and influence the world around me with clarity, decisiveness and accuracy feels like I’m living up to and realizing my fullest potential. Without it my learned behaviors begin to slip away due to the stack up of overwhelming frustrations because my foggy, fleeting and impulsive thoughts distract me from my purpose. With discernment rather than by impulse, I succeed.
Dr May is wonderful. I highly recommend him.
