I would not recommend Lindsay Sherman, this therapist based on my experience. I attended four sessions with a $25 co-pay per visit. Due to my card being stolen, I needed time to replace it and temporarily owed $100 for those sessions. While I was out of town, the therapist contacted me regarding the balance and canceled my upcoming appointments without clearly notifying me. As soon as I returned, I promptly paid the outstanding $100 and went to my scheduled appointment, only to find that she was not there. I later discovered that my appointments had been canceled without my knowledge. I attempted to reach out multiple times by phone and text to explain that the balance had been paid, but I received no response. This was especially frustrating as I had been consistently attending weekly Monday appointments and had scheduled sessions booked two months in advance. Given that I sought support for family and mental health concerns, this experience felt dismissive and unprofessional. Clear communication and continuity of care are essential in a therapeutic relationship, and unfortunately, that was not my experience here. Additionally, the office environment was not up to professional standards. The building appeared old and poorly maintained, and there was a noticeable mildew odor, which made the space feel uncomfortable and unclean. Lastly, come to find out my insurance was suppose to pay out at 100%, I shouldn’t have had a Co-pay.. all this over $100. I would advise others to proceed with caution before booking with this provider.
Resilience Counseling has truly been a life saving practice for me. I highly recommend them to anyone suffering from unique/intense trauma, anyone part of the LGBTQ+ community, or anyone who has felt burnt out searching for empathetic, genuinely caring therapists. In response to another review for Resilience Counseling, I would like to add that it would be INCREDIBLY illegal for any practice to disclose why they ended the employment of a licensed therapist. I have recommended this practice to each and everyone of my friends and will continue to do so.
I had a very good experience with my therapist at Resilience Counseling -- up until I didn't. My last session with my therapist was on a Friday. We ended on a cliffhanger and made plans for what to talk about the next week. The following Tuesday, I was notified by Resilience that my therapist's employment had been terminated. Citing employment laws, they said they were unable to provide any details or to facilitate any communication between myself and my now-former therapist. This was incredibly difficult for me, to have a relationship with someone I trust end abruptly and with no explanation. I had no idea what happened to my therapist. Was there a significant ethical breach? Had they been fired for other behavior? Had they been injured or even killed outside of work? I had no answers or closure, and -- citing legal restrictions -- Resilience was unable to provide any information. I'm not particularly well-connected in the Chicago therapy community, but I did reach out to the people I do have connections to, in case anyone had any idea what had happened. The story that eventually came back to me was that the practice notified a number of its more recent hires (including my therapist) that their positions were being eliminated with essentially no notice, and that they were warned against having any future contact with their former clients. To be totally clear, that's third-hand information that filtered back to me and may not reflect the whole story. Moreover, if there is more to the story, employment laws may prevent Resilience from offering any clarifying details to defend their actions. These are important caveats to remember if you're considering whether a therapist at Resilience is a good fit for you. I'm just someone on the internet. But ultimately this review is about my experience, and the way in which my relationship with my therapist ended was a shockingly bad experience. That might be justifiable if my therapist had been engaged in ethical misconduct, or had done something to put a client at risk. But if the version of events communicated to me is true -- that client relationships were ended abruptly because of a business decision to cut back on staff -- then that reflects a serious lack of consideration for their clients. I'm not a therapist or an ethicist. All I know is, the choices of the Resilience management caused me harm.
