You cannot find a more patient, understanding, hilarious, out-of-the-box thinking therapist like Dr. Heather Ferguson-Tillman! When I was on the hunt for a new therapist, I knew I couldn't let Dr. Tillman slip away after meeting her. It is common to hear that therapy isn't made to fix your problems, but to offer a new perspective on them. Somehow, Dr. Tillman does both those things without intruding on the patient's autonomy! She has seen my life do a complete 180 and doesn't realize that her encouragement is a huge part of that. Not a day goes by that I am not eternally grateful for her influence on me in and between sessions. It would definitely be in anyone's best interest to make her one of your influences, too. Thank you, Phoenix Rising, for hiring such a passionate and committed soul. Thank you, Dr. Tillman, for being that amazing soul and sharing part of it with me. I am literally all the better for it.
This is an amazing therapy practice in Chicago, IL. The therapists are really kind, knowledgeable, and make you feel comfortable right away. As a Black woman owned and BIPOC led practice, the space feels very welcoming and inclusive. The intake process was smooth and easy, which made getting started a lot less stressful. I’ve had a really positive experience here and always leave feeling supported and understood. If you’re looking for therapy in Chicago, I definitely recommend checking them out. It’s a great option for kids, teens, adults, couples, or families who want a safe and supportive space.
My review is for Dr. Gilliard: When I say she is nothing short of amazing I mean it. She has helped me tackle and accomplish so much in such a short period of time. Things I never thought I would be able to get through. She creates a safe and comfortable environment and she’s a great, attentive listener. I’m grateful I chose her as my therapist! & her having weekend availability is also a plus ☺️
I currently have individual therapy with Dr. Michelle and EMDR with Taja Nia. Both women are FANTASTIC!! Dr. Michelle has been helping me navigate one of the most difficult times in my life and is an AMAZING support. She is so validating and motivating. She provides the type of services to me that I hope I provide to my clients! I just started EMDR with Taja Nia, but, I can tell she is already a good match for me! She is very welcoming and warm, and, helping me through a difficult time as well.
Constance is very unprofessional. I called to speak with someone over the phone (surprisingly someone answered) to ask why the is the website stating that certain therapists are accepting new clients but they really aren’t. As I was talking to Constance, she interrupted me and her tone was a bit defensive. I told her I’d have to interrupt her as she rudely did the same to me! She didn’t like that at all. At that point I was upset and offended by the unprofessionalism. She accused me of yelling at her at the very start of the call, she asked if I can allow her to speak, I did. She says “ you know what, you’ve been very nasty on this phone how about you call tomorrow” and ended the call. I called back. She says “ I checked your emails, you were very nasty and rude in your emails” and basically used that as justification as to why she wasn’t going to talk to me at all. I called this morning to speak with a manager and she gave me Yolanda’s number. Left a VM and she has yet to answer my call! lol I shouldn’t have had this type of encounter with a so called professional at all.
I have been using this company for therapy for a few years now, and I've been able to also use them for services for my daughters. I must say I am impressed with the response times when initiating service, most places have a waitlist and it can be difficult to get the services that you need. I can honestly say that has never been a problem for me, which is why I am always suggesting Phoenix Rising to friends and family seeking therapy. I love the variety of qualified therapists that are made available for you to choose from there is absolutely someone for everyone based on their needs.
I would have loved to give 5 stars, as Phoenix Rising has a team of great therapist. My children and spouse receive services from this company as well. The therapist are well equipped to help with whatever your needs. The HR dept is another story. Having such a critical role, I was surprised that this individual behaved so inappropriately. I had a staff member, who I will hold off on identifying, definitely met me with some very nasty energy over the phone. I remained calm and matter-of-fact, as I was only relaying info directly from my insurance. I don’t know why she chose to take that interaction as a personal attack on her work, because I never blamed for anything. Since speaking to her 1/17/24, I have not been able to get through to their team via phone, nor has my emails been returned. Today is 1/26/24. I have sent another email, and hopefully it will be returned soon so that access to therapy does not delay further. Given the follow up, if appropriate, I will make sure my ratings are updated to reflect the professionalism and quality of this business.
I have had many therapists and have not found a match until I started counseling here. This practice is very professional and communication has been amazing. My therapist has worked with me to fit me in if an emergency occurs in my personal life. They offer virtual appointments and office appointments which is a great tool for me. I would definitely recommend this business. It has helped me grow as an individual.
A very Outstanding practice! I highly recommend this to everyone. Helped me turn a lot of things around in my life.
Lax communication (received either no response or an away message) Miscommunication (arrived at a scheduled appt, no counselor in attendance - no communication beforehand) Lack of accountability from head (Chanté Woods) - Dismissal of a client in desperate need of their services, disheartening. Moreover, reached out to counselor Melissa Young & received no response AFTER our first session, no follow up; I thought I found a match. I tried to support a black business and was disappointed.
