Be careful with Darren Kohlberg. He seems nice, but you might end up feeling worse than when you started. If you start to sense that, get out now! There are tons of other therapists out there. Looks like other reviewers have had similar experiences. I don't know if they were talking about him or other therapists from this practice. They seem to have a problem here. I imagine some at this practice may be okay. I would just say be careful and be ready to leave if you feel at all uncomfortable or not respected.
Midwest Counseling and Diagnostics has a collection of some of the best clinicians in Chicago. Clinicians who really care about each one of their clients. I have been blessed to work with a few of these talented clinicians on a regular basis and I am always blown away with the time that they take out of their busy schedules for each one of their clients. 10/5 stars IMO
High quality leadership and therapists.
Excellent and responsive therapists. I’d highly recommend this practice to everyone. Empathetic and caring people who always make time for a patient.
Buyer beware. I have two separate friends from two completely different circles who have been retraumatized by therapists at this practice. One of them is still trying to recover and has been suicidal since their experience. With absolutely no follow up or care from the practice. There are far too many people with their own issues that need healing working in this field, and it can be truly damaging and dangerous. I can’t stop thinking about others who are in need of help having the same experience here.
I have had a great experience at Midwest Counseling, especially with Savannah Shotts. I have worked with a few therapists in my life. While they were all helpful, Savannah seems to care so much more deeply than anyone else I've worked with. She challenges me in ways that still felt like a warm hug, and motivate me to become the best version of myself. I am eternally grateful to the healers who dedicate their lives to helping others! Thank you!
I was very hopeful that this agency would be a good match for me. The bio of the therapist Savannah Shotts highlighted a lot of the issues that I wanted to work on in counseling. I reached out to the intake coordinator Rose, and was especially hopeful when she forwarded my message to Savannah after I asked to be placed on her waiting list when Rose told me that she didn't have openings. Savannah emailed me on a Monday letting me know that she wasn't "officially" taking new clients, but to let her know my availability so that we could have a call that week to see if we could find a time that worked. I emailed her, followed up by email, and tried contacting her by phone and have not heard back in a week. I am thankful that I was looking to switch therapists to someone who can do EMDR, and hadn't terminated services with my current provider yet. If I was someone who didn't have that support and this is the way I was ignored while trying to start therapy, I imagine I would feel very discouraged and invalidated from this practice.
I will be forever grateful for Brooke and my work with her over the past 2 years. Her approach has been the perfect combination of kind, endearing, direct, challenging and assertive-all of which I have needed at some point or another. She is the one person who likely knows me better than I know myself. I cannot say enough good things about her and the ability she has to create such a safe therapeutic space. I am incredibly sad that our work together has ended due to an insurance change, but I was in fantastic hands and I can guarantee any future client of hers would be as well.
Fantastic staff!
Would give 0 stars if I could. Very unresponsive
