Dr Kennedy was assigned as an expert witness in the family court. My experience of him was one of being unempathetic and out of touch with children and families today. He appeared to support the notion that mothers were more important than fathers and that fathers should be grateful for having any contact, however little, with their children. The whole system of expert witnesses providing their services to the family court is simply a money spinner for the experts who want to supplement their NHS salary. The whole future of a young person's life is heavily weighted on a 1.5 hour interview with the expert. This clearly is insufficient and I have no doubt that these experts are fully aware of this. However, despite not being able to provide a proper professional assessment which has the children's best interest at heart, these experts are more than willing to take their substantial fees and provide a substandard report based upon minimal time with their clients. Sadly there appears to be a conflict with being able to provide the best service for the best outcomes for the children they work with weighted against making a quick profit.
