TL;DR Company lacking in empathy, driven by greed, and unable to accommodate you during one of your most vulnerable times despite your transparency; Use only for at home detox and get discharged immediately. Assume you will be charged whether you communicate your inability to attend or not. Since I have to give one star it should go to Dr. O'Leary and the withdrawal specialist (two nurses whose names I can't recall). I sought out an IOP recovery option outside of my health insurance since my PCP didn't offer detox services. To anyone in early, active recovery, I would AVOID this place unless it's for that reason only. The staff is extremely unprofessional. They lack common decency as it pertains to empathy and understanding when it comes to dealing with patients during such a sensitive and uncertain time. After a handful (literally 4-5) group meetings with them I quickly realized the schedule, environment and overall handling of the group policies and procedures were not a good fit for me. I reached out to the office manager, Teneal, to let her know that I would need to speak with the group leader before continuing on with the IOP session due to my dislike of how he handled his session and the financial cost I was incurring which hadn't been fully disclosed to me upfront. He attempted to make contact with me during a time at which I was unavailable. She and her office continued to bill me for two no show sessions despite my insistence to her that I wasn't prepared to move forward with the group sessions. After finally speaking with the group leader, Benjamin, over a WEEK after reaching out, his tone was condescending and passive aggressive regarding my concerns. About 48 hours later I requested to be discharged from their services. It is then that I attempted to reconcile my bill only to find out that I had incurred the 2 no show charges totaling 100 dollars. For context, my co-pays were 10 to 20 dollars. They used the nuance of me not specifically saying to "take me off the roster"...which as a patient this is something I wouldn't have known to say before completely discontinuing services. It was disclosed by another group member in a meeting that he was afraid of having to tell his father about all the no show charges he also accrued which suggest this a running theme with this company. BE AWARE. When you are in need, or seeking help, there will be no shortage of people and places who have no problems taking advantage of you and your unfortunate circumstances during your most vulnerable time. Given my constant communication and transparency with Teneal and numerous other staff members, she could've easily reprieved the 2 no show charges but she argued with me and told me to refer to my financial agreement. Heartless. I always wonder if people like the ones who decide to work with populations like this ever consider how they would want someone to treat their loved one. Hopefully with the same "compassion" they show others.

In the 21st century, Kolmac only sends out paper bills. If you’ve moved, or the Post Office loses the bill, they get sent to collections and your credit rating get hit. They refused to contemplate e-billing. So much for thinking of reducing stress for someone in recovery. It’s obvious their corporate systems are more important than your recovery. Find another organization that prioritizes YOU and not their corporate profits

I entered Kolmac in Washington DC on Nov. 3, 2015. I just passed my 10-year sober anniversary (3,650 days!). I have profound gratitude for the level and quality of treatment I received and the therapists, caregivers, and administrators there. I have packed a lot of living in the past ten years and continue to push myself and learn from my experience at Kolmac.

Kolmac has excellent clinicians and they are very good at treating and helping not only those with addictions but also helping families affected. DC and Virginia offices are great!

I had a family just finish their IOP and continuing care program and it has been amazing to see what they have learned throughout their time in Kolmac. The therapist were so welcoming and understanding and you can tell they really care about the work they put in. He now has 2 years sober!

I would not recommend this program for cannabis misuse. You won't be taken as serious as others. There was one checkin on Sat. The first night she staff member was 30min late starting the detox. I was told I didn't need a primary person when I knew I did. I didn't feel supported. The medicine made me sick and I couldn't complete the detox. When I called to express concern, I learned I had been discharged from the program before I had a chance to return the call from the doctor less than 48 hours later. It is convenient to be at home in a safe and familiar place. The staff are nice and non judgemental and understanding. It is easy to get started. My insurance covered everything. (Carefirst)

Option for virtual and in person is nice and flexible. I feel like unless you’re court ordered or super new to recovery, the intensive out patient program is rudimentary and seems standardized and one size fits all. Also there isn’t a lot of practical application (for me) and the groups seem disorganized and session topics are disconnected. It’s like an open group talk therapy vs. a structured program (which I prefer structure). I keep going because an unstructured program is better than no program for me.

This program was great for me but they are not accurate and honest when discussing costs before you enter. I was told all I would have to pay was my co pay which I was doing along the way. Then 2 months after the program ended I received a bill over $3K . I asked to speak to someone in a supervisors role and never received a call back. Instead I was sent to collections which is totally unprofessional. The clinicians are great the rest leaves a horrible taste in my month hopefully I will not need a resource again like this but I will definitely warn others about this.
