She is fantastic. Smart and very compassionate!
I have seen mental health providers on and of for many years. I am new to the area and needed a new psychiatrist. Dr. Andewelt was easy to talk to, and I felt she was non-judgmental. She was very thorough and asked a lot of questions- some that I have never been asked before- and they were thought provoking. She explained that she doesn't just refill medications- but evaluates the whole picture, and the effect that those medications are having on one's current state. She wants to make sure that each medication is currently needed, that there are not potentially dangerous medication combinations, and that all of the necessary symptoms were being treated. She was very direct saying that if my alcohol use was the primary problem- an addiction psychiatrist would be the best fit for me. She explained her recommendations and made sure that I participated in creating the plan for moving forward. I left the appointment feeling lucky that I got in (she had a cancellation- otherwise, I would have had to see someone else because my medications are running out and her next available intake was not for a while.)
Anyone with mental health issues, will tell you that it's hard reaching out to a doctor, and telling them that you have trauma. It's huge step, to put yourself out there. Doctor Alexa responding to me in a very unprofessional manner. All she responded to me was "We would not be a good fit." And I felt like I was being written off when I took the time to craft the email to reach out to her to get a quote. It was rushed and lazy. When I did respond back that it would not be a good fit, because I am looking for someone with a better bedside manner. that is when she crafted me the email that she should have wrote in the first place. She should have treated me like an adult treats another, and say that she would have to see me every month. It took her 3 minutes to write the email that she could have crafted. And then I felt gaslight it that the reason why she gave me a rush response, was because she wanted to save my time when looking for a new psychiatrist. I would not recommend going to any doctor who can't take 3 minutes to respond to your initial request. I think that everybody deserves a little bit more respect than that from a doctor. Especially one that deals with mental health issues. Also I kind of find sketchy that you need to reach out to her for quote. Are some mental illnesses cheaper than others? I thought that doctors have a flat rate for all their patients.
,..She made me feel great...
