Litteral House is a facility in San Jose, California, offering residential care. Reviews indicate a mixed experience among clients. Some describe the environment as terrifying and unprofessional, citing issues with staff communication, perceived victim-blaming, and inadequate therapeutic programming. Others found the staff to be supportive and helpful, recommending the facility for those committed to recovery. You know it's bad when you find yourself at Litteral House. A terrifying environment, that accepts the most delusional patients who had no business being discharged from their hospitals, and puts you in a house with them with little supervision. At times you'll have no idea where to find a staff member, but you'll still be stuck in the house with every nut that lives there. Being short-staffed is no excuse. Visitors are completely forbidden, as is leaving, making it less like a "residential" and more like "unsupervised inpatient care". If you find yourself in a difficult situation and need to talk to a staff member, you'll find that the person you talk to isn't a licensed therapist. In fact, there are no licensed therapists on staff, so the advantage of being here boils down to "an environment where someone will make sure you take your meds", which is the one thing I didn't need help with. When I was admitted, I didn't feel the need to ask clarifying questions when I was told that there were to be 5 groups per day, because I took it as a given that said groups would be useful. Unlike at other institutions, none of these groups last longer than 15 minutes. There is little discussion of coping strategies and no occupational therapy, mostly just "how are you doing" and exercise. The upshot it that the psychiatrists are really good. Unfortunately, you only get time with them once per week, so med changes take a while to get if you need them, and most patients here don't need med changes anyway so it's not much of an upshot. The only reason to find yourself here is because you're on Medi-Cal and have no other option. I would urge the state of California to allocate resources to more helpful institutions.

Staff is extremely unprofessional here. From forgetting to feed me, to tossing my special food( I have dietary restrictions/allergies)to invalidating triggers and straight denial. Avoid this place at all costs & spend your time on recovering at a place where they won’t victim blame. Their lack of communication among the staff is concerning. I was humiliated and made to feel insignificant many times here. The so called therapists are a joke. Such a shame too, I was honestly hoping they could help me with housing & other resources. They are only concerned about a paycheck.
